Therapy Group of DC
Insurance, billing, and the paperwork that would otherwise be yours
I’m not a therapist. I’m the person who handles everything around the therapy: the billing, the insurance claims, and the administrative pieces that would otherwise land on you.
Therapy Group of DC is an out-of-network practice. You pay for your sessions directly, and we file your insurance claims for you. That part has been mine since 2022, so I’ve seen most of the ways a claim can go wrong. I submit them regularly, keep an eye on what comes back, and follow up when something doesn’t look right.
There is one piece I can’t do for you. Insurance companies will only discuss your benefits with you. They won’t tell us what your plan covers, what your deductible is, or what you’ll get back. So that call is yours to make, and our payment page has the questions to ask and the words to use.
“Billing and out-of-network benefits are some of the most confusing parts of therapy. My job is to make them make sense.”
Lisa Kowalewski, Billing & Client Support, Therapy Group of DC
I’m also there at the start, making sure your first appointment and your intake paperwork are squared away before you sit down with your therapist.
If the cost side is the part making you hesitate, ask early. I’m at [email protected]. It’s an ordinary thing to want to understand, and it’s easier to sort out before you start than to wonder about for months.
No. That part is mine. You pay for your session at the time, and I submit the claim to your insurer on your behalf so you aren’t managing forms. A lot of out-of-network practices leave that to the client. We don’t.
Yes. One is generated automatically each month and appears in your client portal, so you don’t need to request it. Most people never need to do anything with it, since we submit the claim for you, but it’s there if your insurer asks for documentation or you want it for your own records.
You’ll need to call your insurer. They’ll only discuss your benefits with you, not with us. Our payment page has the exact questions to ask and the wording to use, including the billing code for a therapy session.
Tell me. The first thing I do is check that it went out correctly on our end, since wrong codes and missing details cause a fair number of denials and those are fixable. If the decision is genuinely your plan’s, I can’t overturn it, but I can make sure our paperwork isn’t what’s holding things up and help you understand what you’re looking at.
That timeline belongs to your insurer, and it varies more than people expect. What I can tell you is when your claim went out. If it’s been a while and nothing has arrived, let me know and I’ll confirm it was submitted and that nothing on our end is stuck.
Yes. We accept HSA and FSA cards alongside major credit and debit cards.
Me, at [email protected]. Your therapist doesn’t handle billing, so you don’t have to raise a claim problem with the person you’re doing the work with.
Life in DC can be complicated. Insurance paperwork shouldn’t be. We handle the paperwork to make reimbursement simple.
